I am about to make a change to the generator provisioning algorithm and code logic. This is another step towards the new, upcoming pricing model and improved response times for capturing screenshots. Read below for details...

POSSIBLE DOWNTIME

The worst case for these changes is that a glitch could be introduced that causes any or all generators to stop capturing screenshots. However, this is not likely to occur (due to careful code pre-test evaluations) but is possible. In the event that there is a problem, I will be aware immediately and will work to resolve it quickly. Once stable, I will fully test the new code to be sure it works well.

PURPOSE OF CHANGES

This change will allow us to:

  1. more dynamically allocate resources across user types: Free vs Paid vs Dedicated*
  2. improve our capture response times to 30s across-the-board for all paying customers
  3. lower our capture generator costs (and eventually pass those on to you!)

*The new pricing model will eliminate "dedicated generators" for all but the most demanding type of user. Instead, all paying users will share in a resource pool that automatically allocates resources, as needed, to try to keep queue response times to 30s each. For those who require an absolute guarantee, there will be an additional "Enterprise" level starting at $2,500/month.

I will post an update once everything appears to be operational and stable.

OK. Everything looks good so far.

Please report any unusual response times (severely delayed or queued for hours, etc).

The difference for free users could be more noticeable, because that queue is lower priority. However, our goal is to keep the "free user queue" at 30s (30 second) responsive too. It's just that short bursts of requests will affect it more than the "paid user priority queue" will be.

GEEK-SPEAK

I let the Queue run up a bit (to 2,500) and then turned loose the new algorithm. It knocked out the backlog about 10 times faster than the old algorithm AND it used 1/25th as much in resources to generate the generator feeds. So all of that looks very promising.

Now it is just a matter of keeping an eye on performance at various times of day and usage levels. During spikes, it will be important to see how everything performs under heavy load over time.

Will this increase the daily quota limit, or can we get that increased via additional pricing? I'm bumping into daily limits and it's a real bummer considering I'm already paying for inner pages.

This enhancement had no effect on daily limits.

To increase daily limits, upgrade to PLUS and/or add "new requests" to your account.
