BTW, any websitewelcome.com domain belongs to the hosting provider, Hostgator.

Boy could I burn someone's ear up about their horrible service back when Brent was small time 8-9 years ago. Lately, though, I heard that they have really become a great host.

Hi

I use feeds on some of my websites, one of which which includes screenshots to relevant websites. The feed works fine, the site works fine, however when the articles are either emailed (via feedburner) or posted to Facebook, no images are shown. This has only started happening a day or two ago.

My site: http://www.theonlinesales.co.uk
Feed: http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheOnlineSales
Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/TheOnlineSales

I've tried up to update my Lock to Account settings, however when I try to add Facebook I am shown two messages depending with WWW is used or not;
The domain or IP (www.facebook.com) is on the BLACKLIST and not allowed.
The domain or IP (facebook.com) is already on the WHITELIST, so there is no need to add it.

To get the images showing in the automatically generated emails sent by Feedburner, I suspect that it's near impossible, as I would have to register every mail domain such as MSN, GMail, HotMail etc etc... Is there any other way round this?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Chris

This is a learning process for us as well, but you raise an interesting point. Sending previews in emails would mean that you need to basically allow everyone because it's not realistic to add every email provider in the world. Back when we used to send newsletters, we would embed previews and had to unlock from the account.

So the only realistic way to do that is by disabling "Lock to Account", and that means you would need to keep an eye on your limits (i.e. if you start to go over, take a quick look to make sure someone isn't using your credentials). Even IF someone uses your credentials (be sure that you are not using your "Secret Key" in email previews), then it's still not too big of a deal. It is easy to discover someone stealing an account's use and even easier for us to ban that domain/IP for life. We have only had to do that a few times over the past several years, so it's not a common occurrence, especially once that domain is banned. They simply have to find another website thumbnail provider at that point, because we never un-ban their domain.

So, in short, what you want would require an upgrade to PRO or PLUS. I will discuss with our team about this requirement and if we want to consider accommodating it differently. However, I know that some user's posting previews in facebook apps and twitter apps will have to upgrade to continue doing so.

It was not our intention to make people upgrade in order to disable "Lock to Account", because we highly recommend it even for paid accounts. However, we are having to adapt, based on usage of our service. If we do not adapt; we become obsolete, and we cannot let that happen. Wink

Thanks!

I've upgrade to PLUS and have just tried unlocking my account, but get the following error;

Non-PRO users may not disable the "Lock to Account" feature. This helps prevent multiple accounts (i.e. bandwidth theft).

Do I need to wait for a few hours or should it be instant?

Cheers

It should be instant but I just added PLUS to our cart earlier this morning and it appears not to have upgraded your account automatically. Give me a few minutes to investigate why and then I'll upgrade you manually. I'll post back here when done. I believe you may be our first PLUS customer Wink

However, we will still discuss if it is reasonable for us to support email in some other way (on the whitelist, perhaps), because I don't like "forcing" an upgrade just for that. Hmm.

To me its a very small price to pay. Also we share semi-dedicated servers so response could/should be improved? I personally think leave it as a PLUS option... Think many would be happy to pay the fair $9.95 monthly price.

Do I get a prize for being first PLUS customer? Wink

That's great to hear and thank you for the positive feedback. And, definitely your new request time should be improved during times of high queue from "free users", but this is a work-in-progress, so we will be monitoring the performance of the "Shared Generator Pool."

Ok, it was a combination of an oversight and a typo (gotta love it) that caused the failed upgrade. It should work from now on, but in your case; I have upgraded you manually in each place that required it. So your new request limit is higher (which did happen automatically), you are now showing as a PLUS account type, and those features should be available now.
